Human Design Authority
Our Authority tells us the best way our unique decision-making process works. We are usually conditioned to make decisions from the mind and a place of logic, and to seek approval and authority outside of ourselves. However, our best wisdom is contained in our bodies and each of us have an individualized way of making decisions, depending on which centers we have defined.

By practicing our strategy and authority, we shift to making decisions that are actually correct for us and things will naturally start to fall into place.

Human Design Authorities
Below are the different type of inner Authorities in Human Design. Each authority will be dependent on which centers you have defined in your body graph chart. Click on each one for more information.
Authority

Solar Plexus
Sacral Defined and will have the Emotional Solar Plexus center undefined
Spleen and will have the Solar Plexus and Sacral centers undefined (will be a Manifestor or a Projector)
Ego aka Heart or Will Center and will be a Manifestor type. Will have the Solar Plexus, Sacral, Spleen and Root centers undefined
Ego aka Heart or Will Center and will be a Projector type. Will have the Solar Plexus, Sacral, Spleen and Root centers undefined
G-Center and will have Solar Plexus, Sacral, Spleen, Root and Ego centers undefined
Ajna and will be a Projector type. Will have all centers below the throat undefined (and may have the throat undefined if only Head and Ajna centers are defined)

Emotional Authority
With an Emotional Authority, you are here to have emotional wisdom and you need to take your time in making major decisions. With any big decision, your response should initially be "let me think about it" or "I'll get back to you". You have an emotional wave* (see below), so it is important then that you wait until your emotions settle to a neutral place to then find clarity in what decision to make.

Unlike other authorities, those with emotional authorities will not benefit from making spontaneous decisions. This may work for you every now and then, however, it will not be a consistent and reliable way for you to make energetically correct, major decisions about your life. If you make a decision in the moment when you are excited, happy, or upset - you may regret the decision you've made later on when you get calm clarity on the matter. It pays for you to slow down and pay attention.
*People with Emotional Authority have a defined Solar Plexus that releases an energetic wave pattern. Throughout your wave, you will experience the highs, lows and in-betweens of your emotions, all to come to a place of clarity when your wave is in neutral. This wave is designed to slow down your decisions to allow space for you to feel into what is correct and aligned for you. To create emotional stability, it is helpful to understand and accept your wave and allow yourself to feel through it without resisting or indulging your emotions.
Sacral Authority
Your Sacral will tell you when you have the energy for something or not. As referenced earlier, you have access to an immediate response on any question you have, via your Sacral and this is what you should use to make decisions. The Sacral typically speaks to you through a sound, usually verbal, in response to yes or no questions. That sound can be an 'aha' or 'uh-uh' or an immediate 'yep' or 'nope' response. You will get this sound, which comes directly from the gut, before the mind jumps in.
Splenic Authority
When you have Splenic Authority, you have an innate primal instinct for survival, so will have an instantaneous resonance or recognition with something and an inner knowing whether it is healthy for you or not. The guidance it gives you is in the moment, what is correct and safe for you now and what is not.

​At first your splenic guidance will whisper quietly to you, just once. Learn to tune into it so you know how it speaks to you. The more you listen to it, the louder it will get.
Ego Manifested Authority
Ego authority is all about the Manifestors or Projectors material world and personal identity. Your decision making will largely be all about how you and your world will be affected by the decision you need to make. You need to talk out your thoughts to hear what you say so you can come to a decision. It's important to find someone you trust, that can just listen – without giving input or their advice, because it is your own thoughts that you need to hear so you can come to a decision that is right for you.

It is also important to do this without judgement, including not judging yourself for your thoughts or final decision. As the heart center is a motor, you will either have the will or energy to do something or you won’t. Think of this like a bank account. If you continue to push past your willpower and energy limits, you will deplete your account and have nothing left until you rest and restore your bank of energy.
Ego Projected Authority
Ego authority is all about the Manifestors or Projectors material world and personal identity. Your decision making will largely be all about how you and your world will be affected by the decision you need to make. You need to talk out your thoughts to hear what you say so you can come to a decision. It's important to find someone you trust, that can just listen – without giving input or their advice, because it is your own thoughts that you need to hear so you can come to a decision that is right for you.

It is also important to do this without judgement, including not judging yourself for your thoughts or final decision. Self-Projected Authority
This authority is all about direction and the higher self. This is all about sending you in the direction of what is either correct or incorrect for you to experience love (as that is what the G-center is all about). As this has a channel to the throat, talking out your direction is critical. This can be done with other trusted people, like described in the ego authority, however you can also just speak to yourself in the mirror if that is more comfortable for you.

Speak your thoughts out loud to hear what is right for you. Your wisdom will come directly from the body to the throat, not via the mind. If the mind gets in the way, it will be conditioning that is influencing you rather than your innate wisdom, so question your direction.
Mental Authority
You are designed to talk your decisions out and not let the mind get in the way. Finding someone who can act as an unbiased, trusted sounding board is helpful for you. They need to listen to your language and hear what isn't being said, so they can pick up on the nuances of what you are saying to hear your truth.

Journaling or automatic writing can also be an effective way to see your own thoughts. Let either your conversation or writing just flow without thinking about it, so you can capture your truth and wisdom.
Lunar Authority
You require time to make decisions. Big decisions should be made over at least a 28-day cycle to find out what is correct for you. This is because the moon transits through each of the 64 gates within the lunar cycle, which will impact your ability to access a consistent feeling around a decision. Making a big decision too quickly, especially one that will have an impact on your life (e.g. getting married, buying a house, changing jobs etc.), can lead to disappointment.

For smaller decisions, ensure you are in a place that feels good for you e.g. with the right people, in the right environment, without feeling pressured. Having trusted people to talk it out can also help you arrive at the correct decision for you.
